I'm a couple of days late. I actually was on the ball for Monday's post, but because of the number of pictures that I was trying to upload to the site from my phone, the program kept freezing without finishing. Finally, last night it all went through but I was too tired to write.
Monday is my day off for a while, until this furlough is over. Some days I schedule appointments but I'm trying to make at least every other Monday a fun one.
We had been planning this day (part of it) since last week. K's class went on a field trip to play putt-putt. He asked me every day when we would be able to go back. I kept saying Monday. It also happened that we had to be out of the house because some maintenance needed to be done, and had some other things that would occupy our time throughout the day as well.
I was not expecting it to feel as busy as it did. By the end of the day we were both pretty wiped out.
What we saw before we headed out the door. They were using some sort of heavy machinery in my bedroom and had it closed off.
Lost Treasure Golf and Raceway was next on the agenda. It was HOT out there...and we even got there right when it opened at 10. Needless to say, we did one round of putt putt and that was it.

(We saw this flower along the course and I just thought it was pretty.)

Specifically making a 'mean' race car driver face.

Cooled off a little bit with some wind in our hair. He is not quite tall enough to reach the pedals...but I think he thought he was steering. :)

He had fun when it was just the two of us in the water. During the second round that we did of bumper boats, all of the boats had people in them and we got wet. It was nice to cool off some more but he was not a fan of getting shot with the water. He liked doing the shooting though of course!

Since this place was on the sound side we went over and checked out the Bogue Sound. We're so used to the other side of the island that is the ocean that it was nice to see how different (and calm) the sound side was. We had a little lesson on islands while we were there. He didn't seem to understand that we were on one big island.

Then, because it was not getting any cooler outside, we made a trip to the arcade. I'll be honest, he has no clue whether there is $ in a machine or not. However, this time I gave him some $ for tokens and he played a few games. He did pretty well!

Once we left the putt putt place, we made a quick stop at the aquarium. He always likes to go there so we stop in whenever we can.

About a half hour after we got there, a bird show was going on so we learned about the different birds native to NC.

And his favorite part is the turtle exhibit at the end where the kids can dress up as doctors to diagnose and rehabilitate sea turtles. I didn't get a pic of him working on his turtle, but I will say, we've done this drill about 20x now and we've gotten a variety of turtle problems...infections...boat strikes...etc. This time was a new one. "gut impaction"...or infaction as K kept calling it. It was pretty interesting. In these pictures he is doing some measuring.

The end of the aquarium is always a high point for him. Dairy Queen sits right at the exit.

And there is a fossil dig at the end as well. He found some

And at the very end, when I remember some change (thank you to DQ I had some), he makes a couple of wishes. The only one he would tell me was "I wish I was a scuba diver".

Then it was time to get my car serviced so he chilled out with some games while we waited. He liked sitting at the window where he could watch them lift my car up and take my tires off.

Lastly, it was the beginning of Vacation Bible School. This was his first one ever so I was a little unsure how it would go. He is LOVING it. He seemed to be nervous at first and didn't want me to leave, but once he realized there was someone in his group that he knew, plus they started out with music we've been playing in the car for the last month (they gave us a CD ahead of time), he was all in. They are doing a Greek theme so everyone (kids and adults) are dressed with a headband for the color of their group (their oikos) and a...whatever you call that thing he's wearing. So far he likes the singing, and they've been able to 'shop' with coins at the marketplace. He also said they learned about Paul. VBS to be continued...

I feel like I just wrote a book. I told ya it was a busy day! :)
